Animal Footprint Traps

Intrigued by what may have eaten the mealworms in our hedgehog home that was built a couple of weeks ago, Year 3W became detectives and made animal footprint traps this week.

Firstly, the children created a triangular prism-like tunnel using thick card. Secondly, they glued two pieces of felt to both ends which they covered in non-toxic paint. This paint-soaked felt will act like an ink pad. Dried mealworms were placed in the centre of the tunnel. Once the animal walks through the paint-soaked felt in order to reach the mealworms, it will hopefully leave coloured footprints for us to identify next week.
