Planting Trees (Year 1R)

Thank you to Mrs Edwards who not only obtained free tree saplings, to eventually create a small woodland in our school grounds for children to explore and climb, as well as hedging plants, but also contacted the Staffordshire Wildlife Trust who came into our school, free of charge, to help us to plant them.

The Staffordshire Wildlife Trust came prepared with everything we needed to plant our trees. With the help of four year 6’s, it took us the afternoon to plant all of our saplings. The children learnt a lot about trees and how to plant them…

The saplings…

Placing a plastic tube around the sapling to protect it from animals and humans. This also acts as a mini greenhouse to keep the plant warm…

It will take a while for our saplings to grow and some may not make it at all which is why we have planted so many. I know that the children will enjoy watching them progress and they have learnt a lot about trees too! This pupil became fascinated with the pattern and texture of the bark on this particular tree…
